I have a kind of absurd obsession and trauma with the year 1965. I was born in 80’s, it is quit far with 1965 but I can still feel the dark shadow surrounds it. 1965 in Indonesia is the year where communist political party lost it’s domination on this country. A series of hostility happened all over the country. Many killings that never been put into the trial. That evokes a deep trauma in our collective memory. Kids of 80’s mostly grow with anti-communism propaganda and we can still hear the scary story told by living elders.
Once in the year, a state sponsored
propaganda movie about 1965 tragedy will always be aired via national
television. Indeed it is a very good movie, despite it’s political propaganda.
Although I was big fan of that movie style and directing, I never finished to
watch it. It is too scary even for me right now. 1965 shadow gives me a dark
feeling that still haunts me. So, to compensate with this unpleasant feeling, I
decide to take it into a fantasy fiction. This is my intellectual and psychological remedy. On
one side I can still manage my relation with the bad memory, on other side I
can alter my perception of the tragedy.
